A desire to be seen
We desire to be seen. Initially by our parents, then by our family and friends, then by strangers. This may not be the case for all. Some would rather be unseen.
For those that wish to be seen, why such a desire? Not seen enough during their upbringing? Fear of missing out when seeing others seen? Fame? Fortune? Legacy? Standing for something? A hero archetype?
Does any of this really matter?
Do we even see ourselves? Do we know who we are? Where we came from? Where we are going? Do we know our purpose?
Do we see our flaws? The insignificance of our worldly desires in relation to time? Do we know our Creator? Have we forgotten? Are we confused? Are we lost?
An individualistic culture seems more likely to have individuals who seek to individuate and ‘be seen’… I am seen therefore I am.
Whereas in a collectivist culture, logic suggests that individual identity would be a function of collective identity.
Is my wish to be ‘seen’ related to the individualistic culture in which I have grown? Maybe it arises from some unfulfilled need or perceived lack of appreciation, seeing ‘what else’ rather than ‘what is’, and not seeing what should be seen.
The beautiful thing about self-reflection is to become acquainted with one’s essence.
As I understand who I see within this mirror, I establish a base, a reference to my framework, from where I can grow.
