Recently I posted on my blog about falling rain and how it makes us feel. Unbeknownst to me at the time, floods were wreaking havoc in my country of birth. One moment, I was stuck in my routine, the next moment, I was awakened to this tragedy…

One moment, present.
The next, gone.
From oceans afar,
A call to action.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Over a thousand dead,
Families, reeling in pain.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Millions affected. Hundreds of thousands homeless.
Your generosity, your prayers, in need.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Obliterated into pieces,
Boulder upon boulder, crashing through.

One moment, present,
The next gone.
Trapped in a car,
Eyes shut, nowhere to escape.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Parents shielding their children,
Then, shields shattered.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Children screaming,
Then, silence.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Holding on to loved ones,
Their last touch.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Hope, fading. Fades.
No goodbyes.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
As I write,
Tears in my eyes.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Families torn apart,
Generations lost.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Livelihoods destroyed.
Nothing left.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Suffocated by mud,
A voice, no more.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Walls of gushing water,
In their path, everything drowns.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
A life of labour,
Now, no sign of life, nor its labour.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Homes washed away,
No place left to stay.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
Entire communities submerged,
Where to begin our search.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
A nation in turmoil,
Hurt upon hurt.

One moment, present,
The next, gone.
