The walls around us
We build a fortress around ourselves. Brick by brick, these walls rise, as part of our defence mechanism. Enclosed within is a sensitive space, our place of refuge. Here, we find comfort in silence, in being alone. Others may have caused us harm. They, the reason our walls may stand. Herein, lies the paradox. Whilst we have built these walls to shut ourselves from them, they continue to impact us, even long after they are gone. These walls leave a mark. Their shadows, darken our inner and outer realm.
These walls ought to be broken down. Freedom lies beyond them. Done are we, with this imprisonment. Suffocated from within. No more.
By locking ourselves in, by guarding our fortress, our world becomes constricted. Blind, we become. Confined, our sensitivity rises. Our souls long to see the Pure Light rising over the horizon. We must find that opening, one sealed long ago. We can let others in. When they reach for us, we can reach back. They can help us break down our barriers. Wise lessons, learnt from our hurt. We need no longer fear. Hearts cut open, vulnerable, let through more of the Eternal Light. We do not need these walls. We can face those who have hurt us. We can walk around them. We can put them behind us. We can take a different path. We can remove them from our path. Our path, need no longer be enclosed by them. Never again will they entrap us. That time, gone, when we had permitted them power over ourselves. No more.
These guards we have placed, guard us against all others. Now awakened, ready to place behind us this place of retreat, we shall ask these guards to resign. They are a product of our hurt. For as long as they are present, we are reminded of our hurt. Against every action, they react steadfast, often without thinking. Whilst serving to protect us, they keep us at bay, for they are dependent on our hurt, on our need to keep others out. Yet, we do not see, they keep out not only those who have hurt us, but also those who love us. When we are shielded by our fortress, residing within its dark chambers, we block the Eternal Light from reaching us. Whereby, the miracles of life pass by us, unseen. No more.
